Agartala: Feb 11: The Left Front strongly opposed the central budget in a press conference held by the five Left Front parties at the CPI(M) state office on Tuesday. Narayan Kar, the convener of the Left Front state committee, criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, stating that they are running the government in the country. He noted that the Parliament session is currently underway, while Prime Minister Modi is on a foreign tour.

The budget, presented on February 1 by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, was described as planless and careless by the Left Front. The five Left Front parties strongly opposed the budget and announced their intention to present an alternative proposal for the country's economic situation to the people inside and outside the Parliament. One of the key questions raised in their alternative proposal is where the government will obtain the funds to provide a tax exemption of up to Rs 12 lakh in the new budget. They questioned whether the government will draw this tax money from the treasury.

The Left organizations expressed concerns if the money is sourced from projects like REGA and the ICDS project, as this funding could be used to create employment, build infrastructure, and develop industries in the country. They further alleged that the budget does not allocate additional funds for farmers; instead, it reduces Rs 3,000 crore from the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana allocation. Similarly, the allocation for the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Yojana has also been reduced. They accused the government of making false promises to the farmers of Agartala city.

The alternative proposal from the Left organizations includes provisions for farmers and addresses the reduced allocation for rural development in the newly proposed budget. Narayan Kar stated that the Left organizations have been forced to bring an alternative proposal due to these concerns. They plan to raise awareness among the public about these issues. The leaders of the five Left Front organizations were present at the press conference.
