Economics Department of TU Hosts Historic Conference with Renowned Economists from India

The Economics Department of Tripura University (TU) has etched its name in history by hosting the 58th Annual Conference of The Indian Econometric Society (TIES) for the first time in the state of Tripura. The conference saw the participation of esteemed econometricians from across India, including Prof. K L Krishna, Former Director of Delhi School of Economics, who delved into various issues and research topics related to industrialization in India and other pertinent areas.The conference provided a unique platform to discuss the economics of the Northeast region, with a special focus on the economy of Tripura. The two-day event commenced with a ceremonial lamp lighting ceremony at the MBB auditorium, where distinguished guests such as Prof. S. Mahendra Dev, Former Director & VC of IGIDR, Mumbai, Prof. Sukhendu Debbarma, Dean of Faculty of Social Science, Prof. Subhrabaran Das from the Department of Economics, and Dr. K. Shanmugan, Secretary of TIES, were present.The contributions of Prof. C R Rao, a pioneer in the field of econometrics, were also highlighted during the program. Speakers like Prof. K L Krishna, Dr. C Rangarajan, former RBI Governor, Prof. Probal Chaudhuri from ISI Kolkata, and Dr. R B Barman, Executive Vice Chairman of TIES Trust, shared insights into Prof. Rao's work and its impact on the field.The conference also featured a lecture by Prof. Ashima Goyal, Member of the Monetary Policy Committee at RBI, on "Macroeconomic Policy: Lessons from Post-Pandemic Experience." The session was chaired by Dr. R B Barman, Executive Vice Chairman of TIES Trust, and provided valuable insights into the economic policies adopted in response to the pandemic.Overall, the 58th Annual Conference of TIES at Tripura University was a significant event that brought together leading economists to discuss crucial economic issues and research topics, providing a platform for valuable insights and discussions on the economic landscape of India and the Northeast region.
