GBP Hospital Celebrates 64th Foundation Day

Agartala: Oct 14: _{Agartala’s Gobind Ballabh Pant (GBP) Hospital}, renowned across Northeast India, celebrated its 64th Foundation Day today. Chief Minister Professor (Dr.) Manik Saha, addressing the inaugural function, highlighted the hospital’s significant role during the 1971 Liberation War and its evolution over the years.

The Chief Minister noted the substantial advancements at GBP Hospital, including the introduction of new technologies and super specialty departments. He recalled his past experiences working at the hospital and emphasized the transformation from its early days when VM (now IGIM) Hospital was the primary medical facility in Agartala. Established in 1961 to meet the growing demand for healthcare services, GBP Hospital has continued to expand its capabilities.

A key highlight of the event was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the state government and ONGC for the construction of a new 20-bed specialty ward for infectious disease patients. The MoU was exchanged between Chief Secretary JK Sinha and ONGC Asset Manager Krishna Kumar, with ONGC committing Rs 34.46 crore for the project.

Chief Minister Saha also discussed the government’s ‘Lakhya’ plan, aimed at developing infrastructure in health, education, and sports to build a developed India and Tripura by 2047. He mentioned the establishment of medical and dental colleges in the state and the increasing interest from investors in the healthcare sector. The Chief Minister highlighted the success of the ‘Mukhyamantri Semepeshu’ program, which has enabled 90% of medical help seekers to receive treatment within the state.

Chief Secretary JK Sinha praised the continuous development of GBP Hospital and urged for forward planning as the hospital approaches its 75th anniversary. He acknowledged the hospital’s crucial role during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Other notable speakers at the event included MLA Minarani Sarkar, ONGC Asset Manager Krishna Kumar, AGMC Principal Dr. Anup Kumar Saha, and GBP Hospital Superintendent Dr. Shankar Chakraborty. Dr. Arunav Dasgupta delivered the welcome speech.
