Agartala: July 22: At a press conference held at the CPIM state office on Monday evening, Opposition Leader Jitendra Chowdhury expressed concerns over the ongoing situation in Gandachara. He highlighted issues related to human rights and civil rights, stating that the people of the state are increasingly distressed.

Jitendra Chowdhury, along with a delegation including former MLA Sudhan Das, former minister Naresh Jamatia, and MLA Ramu, attempted to visit Gandachara on Monday. He claimed that since July 12, there has been unrest in Gandachara, allegedly supported by the government and administration. The unrest reportedly began around the Anand Mela event, during which a young man named Parameshwar Reang died, affecting the livelihoods of hundreds of families.

Jitendra Chowdhury mentioned that he had communicated with District Governor Saju Ohadi and received confirmation from the District Magistrate that he could visit Gandachara on Monday. Despite informing various officials about their visit, the delegation was stopped by police near Ambassa. The police cited the enforcement of Section 163 as the reason for the blockade.

Jitendra Chowdhury criticized the police’s actions, suggesting that the administration is under pressure and that the situation in Gandachara has not yet normalized. He expressed concerns over the perceived suppression of civil rights and the obstruction faced by opposition representatives. He also indicated that the government’s actions might be an attempt to prevent the public from becoming aware of the situation in Gandachara.

Former MLA Sudhan Das, former minister Naresh Jamatia, and other CPIM leaders were present at the press conference, voicing their concerns about the ongoing issues in Gandachara.
