Agartala: Mar 16: In the state, cannabis smuggling has become a persistent issue despite ongoing efforts by law enforcement. Every day, young men, both local and from other states, are being caught by the police or railway police while attempting to smuggle cannabis. However, despite these frequent arrests, the flow of cannabis continues unabated. A recent example occurred on Sunday at Udaipur station, where a young man was apprehended for smuggling cannabis.
According to the police, they had received a tip-off about a person carrying six kilograms of dried cannabis on the Kanchanjunga Express, which was traveling from Sabroom to Sealdah and was headed for Agartala. Acting swiftly on the intelligence, the railway police at Udaipur station conducted a search and detained a suspect identified as Amit Dev Roy.
Amit, 28 years old, hails from Amtali, Agartala, and was found in possession of the cannabis. Upon further investigation, it was revealed that Amit worked for HDFC Life Policy, raising further questions about the individual's involvement in such illicit activities. The police have now turned their attention to the next steps, determining what legal actions will be taken against him.
This case highlights the ongoing challenges in curbing the smuggling of illegal substances, particularly cannabis, which continues to flow into the region despite regular crackdowns. The authorities are now grappling with the question of how to more effectively tackle this issue and prevent further smuggling operations. With this recent arrest, the spotlight remains on the effectiveness of current enforcement measures and the broader network of cannabis traffickers that operate within and outside the state.
