Security tightened at Kadamtala following violence

 One person died and 16 more injured in communal clashes erupted over collection of Durga puja subscriptions in North district’s Kadamtala, police said Monday.As many as eight persons were arrested from both communities for their alleged involvement in rioting at Kamatala market and its adjacent areas.“One person died by a bullet hit while 16 more sustained injuries during clashes as violence broke out over collection of subscriptions at Kadamtala. At least eight persons from both communities have been arrested for rioting on Sunday”, Superintendent of Police (SP), North district on Monday.As part of confidence building measures, BSF jawans staged flag march at Kadamtala market, which was vandalized and looted away by a strong group of mob. At present, a full company of BSF jawans and over 300 TSR personnel are deployed in the trouble torn areas to prevent any further escalation of violence.District Magistrate (DM), North district, Debapriya Bardhan told the media, “The situation has been brought under control. Security personnel are engaged in patrolling to keep the trouble makers at bay. Force mobilization has been done effectively”.Earlier, prohibitory orders were imposed in North Tripura’s Kadamtala area on Sunday, following a clash between two communities over collection of Durga puja subscriptions, police said.Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM), Dharmanagar, Sajal Debnath clamped the curbs under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita at Kadamtala till Wednesday to restore normality, they said.The Kadamtala incident has triggered panic among the people ahead of Durga puja. Many traders who have shops at market suffered huge loss just ahead of puja.
