Agartala: Feb 13: Students blocked the national highway demanding justice in protest of the principal being beaten with shoes. The incident occurred on February 10 at Chandpur Secondary School under Bagbasa assembly constituency in Dharmanagar subdivision. On Monday, four students arrived at the school after the national anthem, and acting headmaster Bikash Das blocked them from entering, stating that they would not be allowed in as they had arrived after the scheduled time. It is alleged that Sumati Bardhan, the mother of one of the students, Puja Nath, came to the school and started beating the acting headmaster with shoes.

The Churabari police station was informed, and the situation calmed down when the police arrived and took the accused woman to the police station. The school management committee later took the initiative to resolve the incident, and the accused woman was released by the police in the afternoon. However, on Tuesday, the accused woman made a counter-complaint to the Dharmnagar IS officer against the acting headmaster, seeking justice.

On Thursday morning, from half past nine, the students of Chandpur Vidyalaya blocked the Chandpur area of No. 8 Assam Agartala National Road, demanding justice for the assault on the acting headmaster. The police rushed to the spot after the national highway was blocked and assured the agitating students that legal action would be taken as soon as a complaint was received from the acting headmaster. The students eventually withdrew the blockade at around ten past five in the morning after being assured by the officer-in-charge, and traffic returned to normal. It remains to be seen whether the acting headmaster will file a written complaint at the police station.
