Agartala: Feb 10: Chief Minister Professor Dr. Manik Saha emphasized the need for a collective effort in society to combat drug addiction while inaugurating the 'Jagriti - 2025' inter-college quiz competition at Rabindra Shatabarshiki Bhavan in Agartala on Monday. He called for a united fight against drugs, stressing that drug addiction is a growing concern not only in Tripura but across the country, with detrimental effects on the future of the youth. Dr. Saha highlighted that the Tripura Police and other agencies are working towards creating a drug-free state, and students, as the future of the nation, must actively resist this threat.
Dr. Saha further underscored the importance of quiz competitions like 'Jagriti - 2025' in raising awareness. He pointed out that such events spark interest and encourage participation, creating awareness about crucial issues such as road safety and consumer protection. He also praised Tripura's students for excelling on national and international platforms, sharing the success of a student from Belonia who participated in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 'Pariksha Pe Charcha.'
The Chief Minister stressed the importance of consumer rights and road safety. He noted the rising number of road accidents due to improper helmet use, overspeeding, drunk driving, and mobile phone distractions while driving. Although Tripura's accident rate is lower compared to other regions, Dr. Saha emphasized that the state must continue to enforce strict safety measures. He also mentioned the establishment of trauma centers to assist accident victims and ensure better emergency response.
Dr. Saha concluded by urging everyone to remain vigilant and take proactive steps to protect society from the growing dangers of drug addiction, ensuring a brighter future for students and the state as a whole.
