Tripura Journalist Union Honors Women Journalists on International Women's Day

Agartala, March 8: The Tripura Journalist Union marked International Women's Day by organizing an event at the Agartala Press Club to honor female journalists from across the state.

The program was attended by prominent individuals, including Tripura Journalist Union President Pranab Sarkar, Shyam Sundar Jewelers head Arpita Saha, and social worker and former journalist Phulan Bhattacharya. Representatives from the organizing team, such as Chairman Syed Sajjad Ali, Secretary General Alok Ghosh, Editor Sourajit Pal, and Joint Secretary Abhishek Dey, along with other members, were also present.

Traffic Additional SP Sudambika R graced the event as the chief guest. In her address, she emphasized the importance of women’s rights and empowerment, stating that the journey toward empowerment requires consistent effort. She encouraged the attendees with the statement, "Ab nahi toh kab, hum nahi toh kaun?" (If not now, then when, if not us, then who?).

Arpita Saha highlighted the roles and responsibilities of women in society and encouraged female journalists to continue excelling in their fields.

As part of the celebration, 70 female journalists were presented with the "Ananya Sangbad Yoddha" (Unique News Warrior) awards for their contributions. Reshmi Debnath, a journalist from Jagaran Patrika, was specially honored with the "Shakti Roopa Samman" (Empowerment Award). Additionally, blazers were presented to 20 media houses. The awards were handed over by chief guest Sudambika R.

The event concluded with discussions on the significance of International Women's Day and the acknowledgment of the valuable contributions of women in journalism.
