Agartala: Dec 04: The Tripura Women's Federation (TWF) took to the streets today to protest against the construction of a five-star hotel at Pushpavanta Palace, also known as Old Raj Bhavan. The protest march, which started from Vivekananda Maidan, culminated in a sit-in in front of the Circuit House, with the organization demanding that the palace be preserved instead of being converted into a hotel.

The palace, built by Maharaja Virendra Kishore Manikya in 1917, holds significant cultural and historical value as an ancient royal palace of Tripura. It served as the Raj Bhavan of Tripura until 2018, and its conversion into a hotel would erase its rich legacy. The TWF leader appealed to the state government to reconsider this decision, emphasizing that changing the palace's name would be "completely wrong".

This protest is not an isolated incident, as other organizations like the YTF have also demonstrated against the construction of a five-star hotel in the old palace. In fact, YTF had planned a demonstration on December 5th but temporarily postponed it. The TIPRA Motha Party, which the TWF is affiliated with, has also joined the protest against building a five-star hotel at Ujjayanta Palace .

The TWF's strong protest is a testament to the people's attachment to their cultural heritage and their desire to preserve it for future generations.
