345 kilograms of dry cannabis worth ₹1 crore 3 lakh 50 thousand seized during search operation

Agartala: April 19: In a major breakthrough against drug trafficking, police seized 345 kilograms of dry cannabis during a search operation at the Naka Point on National Highway No. 8 in Assam, Agartala. Based on confidential intelligence, the operation was conducted by the Churaibari police, who detained the truck driver and confiscated the contraband. The estimated market value of the seized cannabis is around ₹1 crore 3 lakh 50 thousand.

According to police sources, the Churaibari police station had received a tip-off regarding an attempt to smuggle a large quantity of cannabis via National Highway No. 8. Acting swiftly, law enforcement officials set up a checkpoint and launched a surveillance operation at the strategic Naka Point.

During the operation, a truck bearing registration number TR01AQ-1516 was intercepted. Upon conducting a thorough search, police recovered 69 packets containing a total of 345 kilograms of dry cannabis hidden inside the vehicle. The driver, identified as Manita Mohan Jamatia, a resident of Teliamura Khamar Bari, was immediately taken into custody.

The police have registered a case and initiated further investigations to determine whether the accused is part of a larger smuggling network. Authorities are also probing the origin and intended destination of the consignment. The successful operation is being hailed as a significant step in the ongoing fight against narcotics trafficking in the region.

The Churaibari police have reiterated their commitment to curbing illegal drug activities and have urged citizens to remain vigilant and cooperate with law enforcement by sharing any suspicious information. Further legal proceedings are underway, and the accused is likely to face charges under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
