Agartala: Feb 17: The battle of words between the ruling BJP and the opposition in Tripura has intensified over the general budget for 2025-26. The opposition, including the CPM, has been vocal in criticizing the budget presented by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman.

BJP state president Rajib Bhattacharjee countered the opposition's criticism, accusing them of being ignorant of economics. However, CPM state secretary and opposition leader Jitendra Chowdhury has now invited BJP leaders for an open discussion on the general budget, essentially calling their bluff.

Chowdhury also fired back at the BJP, saying that they're resorting to anti-Left politics out of frustration, as they've realized they're losing touch with the people. He accused the BJP of making false statements to garner public support.

The war of words between the two parties is likely to continue, with no signs of abatement. The invitation for an open discussion on the budget may lead to a more constructive debate, but only time will tell.
