Tripura police had launched an investigation into a series of cases of financial fraud pertaining to embezzlement of money deposited to savings accounts of several customers of a private bank. The allegations surfaced against the Udaipur branch of HDFC bank located in the district headquarters of Gomati District.According to reports, three customers of the same branch lost their savings worth Rs 82 lakh. The money disappeared from their bank accounts mysteriously. Considering the gravity of the allegations, an additional SP of Gomati District had been entrusted with the task to monitor the investigation and the Subdivisional Police Officer (SDPO) of Udaipur had been appointed the Investigating Officer.Speaking on the issue, SP Gomati District Namit Pathak said, “We have received a total of four complaints so far. The first three complaints were filed by three women customers Niyati Sarkar, Lopamudra Dey and Sunita Datta. The fourth complaint was filed by the manager of the bank. The higher officials of the bank have assured us that they would cooperate with us in the investigation.”Prima facie evidence indicated that these fraudulent transactions had been made using those accounts where financial transactions are comparatively less frequent and the depositors are primarily retired government employees.“The additional SP of the District is directly monitoring the investigation and SDPO has been appointed the investigating officer of the case. We are verifying the CCTV footage to find out whether the perpetrators physically entered the bank premises for the fraudulent transactions or not. Some accused persons had been named in the complaints and they would be summoned for interrogation. We want to assure the victims of the case that very soon the police would be able to strike a breakthrough in the investigation,” Pathak added
