Farmer’s income doubled in state, says Agriculture Minister

Agartala, Feb. 17: Agriculture Minister Ratan Lal Nath on Monday said the income of farmers has been doubled due to well coordinated efforts by the Centre and the state government. While addressing first ever FPO mela at Purbasa complex, the Minister said the income of a famer has been increased from Rs. 6580 in 2017 to Rs. 13, 490 during 2023-24 which is more than double.

Nath said the government has already formed as many as 58 Farmers’ Producing Organizations (FPOs) to assist the farmers so that they get the reasonable price  of their crops. Besides, they are also given guidance by the department for marketing of their products.

Terming the farmers as supply of foods, the Minister said Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been working for the welfare of farmers. “The PM Kishan has been introduced to increase the farmers’ income double. So far, 2.96 lakh farmers of the state received Rs. 790 crore under the PM Kishan scheme. The Prime Minister will give another instalment of PM Kishan to the farmers of the state”, he said.

Highlighting the state’s efforts to welfare the farmers, he said the government has increased the credit to the farmers so that they could face any financial support. The credit to farmers has been Rs. 2025 crore and 3.72 lakh farmers will benefit from the drive.

Nath said the state will not grow unless the farmers developed that’s why various steps have been taken to welfare the farmers who are feeding the people.

Member of Parliament (MP), Rajib Bhattacharjee and Mayor Dipak Majumder also remained present during the programme.
