International Mother Language Day Celebrated with Dignity in Agartala

Agartala: Feb 21: International Mother Language Day was observed with great reverence at the Bangladesh Assistant High Commission's office in Agartala. The formal inauguration of the day began with the laying of wreaths at the temporary Martyrs' Memorial, honoring those who sacrificed their lives for the recognition of the Bengali language. The national flag of Bangladesh was also flown at half-mast as a mark of respect. Assistant High Commissioner Arif Mohammad, along with other dignitaries, attended the ceremony and paid tribute to the martyrs. During a brief address to the press, Arif Mohammad highlighted that since UNESCO declared February 21 as International Mother Language Day in 1999, the day has been commemorated globally to honor linguistic diversity and promote the preservation of mother languages.
Additionally, a state-level event was held at the Agartala Town Hall, organized by the Department of School Education. The ceremony was inaugurated by Agriculture and Power Minister Ratan Lal Nath. In his speech, Nath emphasized the state government's commitment to preserving and promoting all the languages spoken in the region. He also urged students to respect not only their own mother tongues but also other languages, underscoring the importance of linguistic harmony. The event included cultural performances, further celebrating the significance of language and cultural diversity.
This observance of International Mother Language Day in Agartala reflects the collective efforts to honor the sacrifices made for linguistic rights and ensure that all languages are cherished and preserved for future generations.
