Agartala: Dec 26: The state government is dedicated to doubling the income of farmers. Since the change in governance in 2018, the state government has implemented various initiatives aimed at farmers' development. One key measure includes the procurement of paddy produced by farmers at a support price. This was announced by MLA and Minister Shuklacharan Noyatiya during a government-organized paddy procurement program held in Jolaibari.
The event was attended by several prominent figures, including Deepak Dutta, Chairman of the South District Council, K.C. Gupta, Sub-Divisional Officer of Shantir Bazar, Sridam Das, Supervisor of the Jolaibari Agriculture Department, Tapas Dutta, Chairman of the Jolaibari Block Panchayat Samiti, and renowned social worker Sujit Dutta, among others.
During his speech, Minister Noyatiya emphasized that the current state government is focused on doubling farmers' income. He criticized the previous Left Front government, stating that farmers received no support during their tenure. Under the Left Front rule, farmers were subjected to compulsory collections under various funds, and their paddy was often taken without adequate compensation. Additionally, farmers were used for political movements. However, after the change in government, the present administration has prioritized the development of farmers.
In addition, the government has launched the Krishak Samman Nidhi scheme for farmers, providing free seeds and fertilizers. The government is also procuring crops from farmers at support prices and distributing various agricultural tools to enhance farming practices.
The minister also acknowledged the severe impact of the devastating floods in August, which caused substantial losses to farmers. Despite this, thanks to the relentless efforts of Sridam Das, the supervisor of the Agriculture Department, farmers have been able to successfully produce paddy again. The paddy procurement program will continue until January 3rd, with paddy being purchased at a rate of Rs. 23 per kilogram.
