Agartala: Dec 22: Union Home Minister Amit Shah officially inaugurated the Cooperative Conference 2024 at the Rabindra Shatabarshi Bhavan. Speaking at the event, he criticized the previous Communist government in Tripura, accusing them of focusing only on their cadres and neglecting the general public. Shah emphasized that while the Communist government claimed to be a government for the poor, they failed to provide essential services like water, education, and sanitation to the people. He highlighted the progress made by the current BJP-led government under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, stating that today, 87% of the state’s population has access to drinking water, over 80% have access to cooking gas, and health insurance for Rs. 5 lakh is available for residents. He also praised the increase in the state's GDP, which has seen a threefold rise since 2012.
Shah also addressed the issue of Bru-Riang refugees, who had been living in dire conditions for years under previous governments. He commended the BJP government for rehabilitating 40,000 refugees, providing them with employment and basic amenities. A significant amount of Rs. 900 crore was spent on their rehabilitation, and the central government’s efforts were acknowledged by Shah, who thanked Tripura’s Chief Minister Manik Saha for his role in this achievement.
Additionally, Shah inaugurated several projects worth hundreds of crores, including a Central Detective Training Institute in Agartala and various infrastructure projects across the state. He emphasized that these initiatives would boost the state's development and strengthen its economy.
Chief Minister Manik Saha, in his speech, discussed the state's progress, noting that Tripura's GDP had grown by 8.7% from 2023 to 2024. He stressed the need to attract more people to cooperatives and make Tripura self-sufficient in the dairy and fisheries sectors.
