Agartala: Feb 21: Agriculture Minister Ratanlal Nath highlighted the significant importance of the mother tongue during his speech as the chief guest at the state-level International Mother Language Day celebration at Agartala Town Hall. He emphasized that a nation’s identity is deeply rooted in its language, and prosperity cannot be achieved without preserving and nurturing it. Nath pointed out that the mother tongue is the primary means of communication through which individuals express their emotions and thoughts simply and clearly. He further noted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s National Education Policy stresses the importance of the mother tongue in education, and the state government is committed to safeguarding and promoting all languages spoken within the state.
The celebration, marking the 25th anniversary of International Mother Language Day, also featured remarks from Agartala Municipal Corporation Mayor Deepak Majumder, who underscored the global enthusiasm for this day, which aims to protect and promote the languages of various ethnic groups. Former Vice Chancellor of Tripura Central University, Padmashree Dr. Arunoday Saha, echoed the sentiment, likening the importance of the mother tongue to the irreplaceable role of a mother’s milk in a child’s development.
The event saw cultural displays by representatives of different linguistic groups in traditional attire, reflecting the diversity of the state’s languages. Students performed songs in Bengali, Kokborok, and Hindi, celebrating the rich linguistic heritage of Tripura. The event also saw the presence of several key officials, including N.C. Sharma, Director of Secondary Education, and Bimbisar Bhattacharya, Director of Information and Culture, among others, all emphasizing the state’s ongoing efforts to preserve and enrich its linguistic traditions.
