Agartala: Feb 18: The Agartala Government Railway Police (GRP) and the state police's crime branch have joined forces to crack down on human trafficking in the region. In a significant operation, they arrested Niloy Ahmed, a notorious human trafficking broker from Bangladesh who had been operating out of Bangalore. Ahmed had been facilitating the illegal entry of Bangladeshi nationals into Tripura for a long time, charging them hefty sums of money.

The arrest came after months of investigative work, and Ahmed has been remanded to police custody for five days. Authorities are hopeful that his interrogation will reveal the names of other members of the trafficking network.

In another development, the Agartala GRP police also arrested Khokon Das, a 30-year-old resident of Madhupur, who is suspected to have been involved in human trafficking for a prolonged period. Das's arrest was made possible through a joint operation between the GRP, Border Security Force (BSF), and Madhupur police station, based on secret intelligence.

Both arrests are part of ongoing efforts by the Agartala GRP and other law enforcement agencies to combat human trafficking in the region. The police believe that these arrests could lead to a breakthrough in dismantling larger trafficking rings operating in Tripura and neighboring areas ¹.
