Sonamura Police successfully recovered brown sugar worth approximately Rs 6 lakh

Agartala: Feb 15: In a recent operation, the Sonamura Police successfully recovered brown sugar worth approximately Rs 6 lakh from a location near Madhuban Naka Point, Sonamura. The operation was based on a tip-off, and the police had set up a checkpoint to intercept the suspected smuggler. The individual was traveling from Melaghar to Sonamura when he noticed the police presence near Madhuban Naka Point. In an attempt to evade capture, the smuggler abandoned his motorcycle and fled towards the riverside.
Upon inspecting the abandoned bike, the police found a packet containing seven packets of brown sugar, a highly addictive narcotic. The total estimated value of the drugs recovered is around Rs 6 lakh, though this figure may vary depending on the fluctuating market rate of the substance.
Subrata Kumar Deb, the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Sonamura Police Station, confirmed that the drugs were seized as part of a broader crackdown on illegal narcotics trafficking in the region. While the smuggler managed to escape, the operation highlights the police's active efforts to curb drug-related crimes in Tripura.
This incident underscores the ongoing challenges posed by drug trafficking in the state, with authorities continuing to work on intelligence-based operations to tackle the problem. The police have intensified their surveillance and are working on identifying the smuggler to bring them to justice.
