Agartala: Feb 14: A state-level Fish Festival was held on Friday at Purasha Maidan in the capital, marking a significant event to encourage and support fish farmers in the region. The festival was inaugurated by Fisheries Minister Sudhanshu Das, who lit the ceremonial lamp to begin the proceedings. Speaking at the event, the Minister highlighted that this is the third fish festival to be held this year, with a special focus on promoting the fishing industry.

The Minister explained that while state-level fish festivals have been organized in previous years, this year saw a new initiative of district-level fish festivals, which have already been held across eight districts. The state-level festival marks the culmination of these district events. He emphasized that fish farming not only addresses the state’s growing demand for fish but also provides a means of financial self-reliance for the farmers involved. The government is actively supporting fish farmers by offering a variety of assistance to enhance their production capacity.

The Minister further added that through this festival, the government aims to celebrate and acknowledge the hard work of fish farmers. It serves as a platform to raise awareness about the importance of their contributions to the state's economy. Additionally, the festival helps highlight the respect and recognition that fish farming deserves in the eyes of the public.

He also expressed hope that such events would inspire the youth of the state to take an interest in fish farming, boosting enthusiasm for this important agricultural sector. To honor their contributions, several fish farmers were recognized at the event for their dedication and hard work. Through this initiative, the state seeks to strengthen its fishing industry and promote sustainable practices among its farming community.
