Winter School on Health Economics Begins at Tripura University by Economics Department

Agartala, 17 February 2025: The Department of Economics at Tripura University has inaugurated a Winter School on Health Economics, highlighting the subject’s growing importance in contemporary research and policy. The event, running from 17th to 21st February 2025, aims to deepen participants' understanding of health economics through expert-led discussions and interactive sessions.
The inaugural ceremony, held in the library building’s conference hall, featured a symbolic tree-watering ceremony conducted by dignitaries, including Vice-Chancellor (I/C) Professor Badal Kumar Datta, Head of the Economics Department Professor Subhrabaran Das, and Professors Paramita Saha, Udaya Shankar Mishra, Bhagirathi Panda, and Salim Shah.
On the opening day, Professor Udaya Shankar Mishra from the International Institute for Population Sciences, Mumbai, presented on health economics and measurement techniques. Additionally, Professor Subhrabaran Das from Tripura University addressed approaches to estimating household healthcare demand.
Throughout the week, notable speakers will share their expertise. Professor Salim Shah will delve into qualitative research approaches, while Professor Subrata Mukherjee from the University of Mumbai will showcase the use of machine learning for health economics research and NSSO survey analysis.
Dr. Monalisha Chakraborty from MS Ramaiah University will cover NFHS and IHDS data extraction methods, and Professor Joydeep Baruah from Krishna Kanta Handiqui State Open University will discuss health-poverty linkages and research publication strategies.
Further sessions include Professor Sushil Kumar Haldar from Jadavpur University, who will explain methods for measuring health inequality and spatial econometrics. Dr. Pradyut Guha from Sikkim University will focus on project management and financing in health economics, while Dr. William Joe from the Institute of Economic Growth, New Delhi, will provide insights on healthcare program monitoring and evaluation.
The Winter School will conclude on 21st February 2025 with a valedictory session, marking the end of a rich and educational experience for all participants.
