Congress demands Union Home Minister’s resignation over Ambedkar remark

Agartala: Dec 19: The controversy surrounding Union Home Minister Amit Shah's remarks about Dr. B.R. Ambedkar has escalated, with the Congress party demanding his resignation and an apology to the nation. Shah's comments, made in Parliament on December 17, 2024, were deemed disrespectful and objectionable by Congress leaders.
The Congress party has accused the government of plotting to abolish and alter the Constitution through such comments. Pradesh Congress President Ashish Kumar Saha led a protest march in Tripura, condemning Shah's remarks and demanding his immediate resignation .
Other opposition parties, including the DMK, have also joined the protests, with DMK leader R S Bharathi demanding Shah's resignation and a public apology. The RJD leader Lalu Yadav has also slammed Shah, calling him "mad" and urging him to step down from politics .
Amit Shah has refused to apologize, accusing the Congress of being "anti-BR Ambedkar and anti-Constitution" . The BJP has defended Shah's remarks, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi stating that the Congress has a "dark history" of insulting Dr. Ambedkar and ignoring the SC/ST communities .
